Yoga is the practice of uniting the mind, body, and soul. For thousands of years, yogis have used this practice to work

towards experiencing higher states of being, oneness, and

the true 'Self': this is known as 'Samadhi'.

I have found yoga to be a powerful tool for connecting to inner peace, the needs of our body, and physical expression. As well as this, yoga can be used to release old trauma held in the body and for spiritual connection.

Initially, I hated yoga! I was impatient and found it frustrating,

as I wasn't very flexible. After a couple of years, I slowly

started to feel more acceptance of my body and its limits,

which then grew into appreciation and wonder.

 

Through regular practice, I am slowly feeling my body become stronger, more flexible, and balanced in ways I could never have imagined. I am finding more peace and pride within myself and body. I am still not the most flexible person, and there are many yoga asanas that I have yet to perfect, and that is absolutely okay. For me, yoga isn't about flexibility or perfect alignement, it's about union and connection within ourself, which is greatly supported by yogic philosophy. This is the essence of what I aim to bring in my yoga classes, and it is a joy to share this practice with others.

What does a typical class look like?

My weekly classes are holistic and hatha-based, where we focus on a different theme each week. Hatha is the oldest form of yoga, and is gentle and steady, where we hold the poses for longer than in a Vinyasa practice for example. I interweave emotional/psychological themes into the practice, for example, in previous classes we have focused on:

  • Emotional Release

  • Speaking Your Truth

  • Opening the Heart

  • Standing in Your Power

  • Letting Go
